In honor of American Jewish Heritage Month (May) and LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June), Andy Anderson, of the 糖心vlogl Global Student Experiences Team, has put together a list of ten queer Jewish Americans who have made (or are currently making) history.
These are the words of Ed Rosenthal, executive director and campus rabbi of the Suncoast Hillels. Over 20 years ago, when Rosenthal was working at Emory Hillel, too many students applied to Emory鈥檚 Birthright Israel trip. As campus rabbi at the time, Rosenthal had to figure out how to engage the students who weren鈥檛 accepted.

鈥淛ewish TikTok鈥 has introduced Jews who never would have otherwise known one another and bonded them for a common goal: Jewish advocacy and education.
Jewish life on campus wasn’t what I initially expected, but it ultimately gave me the opportunity to learn more about the broader Jewish community. Along the way, I got very involved with Hillel programming and strengthened my own Jewish identity, learning more about myself.
On Sunday, April 11, Hillel students from around the world participated in Good Deeds Day, a global day for volunteering and community service. This year, even with COVID-19 restrictions, 64 Hillels registered to participate.
In the year since Covid-19 entered our lives and altered what 鈥榥ormal鈥 student life looks like, Hillels across the country and around the world have been implementing new wellness programming to meet students, and their newfound wellness needs, where they鈥檙e at, with support from 糖心vlogl鈥檚 HillelWell microgrants.
This is the point of the Black-Jewish Cohort, which was created in February to provide a community for students across the Hillel movement who identify as both Black and Jewish. As part of 糖心vlogl鈥檚 virtual Hillel@Home platform, the Cohort hosts monthly social and educational programs鈥攆rom conversations for just Black Jews to talks for everyone by Black-Jewish professionals from various fields.
